Our topic for season 2 of Culture TV is migration. Migration refers to when something or someone moves location to live somewhere else. Migration is different to immigration. Immigration is when a person moves from one country to another to live. Migration can refer to animals changing habitat, as well as humans. It can a good thing  people to start over in a new area and to have a new life.

Episode 1 of Season 2 has covered most of the facts, but here is a little more information for the faint hearted.

How would the quality of New Zealand teachers change if a mass migration occured?
There are several answers to this, and it is opinionated. One point is that the quality will get better, because the teacher will have more responsibilty and pressure, so he/she will be harder on him/herself. Also, the teachers may get a higher salary, which will persuade them to work harder and set higher standards for themselves. An important point is, that if there were more students at school, then there would probably be more teachers. Also, some schools would have a stricter policy of getting into the school.
The teacher may become stressed, cranky, sleepy, and unable to concentrate. It could put the safety of e children at risk. The teachers could not be bothered anymore to do all the work, and some teachers may end up quitting!

How would the students react to mass migration?
Everyone would have an opinion in this matter. New Zealand students could end up being horrible to the new students, reating them like trash, insisting it's somehow their fault that they are all cramped up in one classroom. Bullying would occur more frequently, fights would break out, riots would storm the streets. What about the kids' health? If one person gets sick, they could easily infect the whole room of students.
On the optimistic side of things, it may not be so bad. It is a great opportunity to meet new people around the world, and for newcomers to start a new life.

If a mass migration occured, would the government still be able to fund New Zealand public schools?
Although, more resources are needed for more students, the government will still  able to fund public schools. This is because more students also means more parents, and more taxes paid. No matter how many foreigners move here, the government will still be able to fund schools because of the tax. If anyone wants to go to school here, they must pay tax.

Through our subsidary (mini) questions, How will migration affect New Zealand's education? has been answered.
